At least two persons were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen at Basiliya area west of Wau town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State over the weekend, a local official said.
Wau County Commissioner Anthony Fada told Radio Tamazuj that SPLA-IO rebels shot and killed a farmer called Kur Madut while on his farm at Basiliya area on Saturday.
He added that a soldier called Henry was also shot, saying he later died on Sunday morning at Wau Teaching Hospital.
The county official accused the SPLA-IO forces of involvement in the incident. “Honestly, we don’t know where the rebels came from, they came from the bush, but at night I received the news of the attack on civilians at 2:00 am” he said.
Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach rebel officials in the area to comment on the incident.
