Two people died on Saturday in an accident involving a truck belonging to a local construction firm, Africa Resource Corporation (ARC) and a boda-boda in Akuac Payam, Gogrial West County, authorities said.
The duo, alongside a survivor of the crash, were riding on a motorbike on the tarmac road toward the Aweil area in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State when the truck hit their motorbike from behind, killing the rider on the spot.
Victor Wek, Gogrial West County Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that the truck driver was apprehended by police and his truck was towed to the nearby police station.
He said the survivor was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“ARC truck killed one girl and a motorcyclist on 27 March at Akon, especially in the area of Akuac Awan Payam. This Ethiopian driver works at Akon International Airport, and both truck driver and motorist were following each other, but the truck driver lost control and hit the motorbike, killing the rider on the spot,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Colonel James Wol Tong, Warrap state director for accidents, said, “The truck of ARC construction company caused a fatal accident in Akon; the truck driver was behind the bodaboda. So he (truck driver) killed two people who were on a motorbike, and only one person was admitted to the hospital.”
Col. Wol said there were many road accidents this week and advised road users to observe traffic rules.
