At least two people were reportedly killed in an attack on a commercial vehicle that carried food items along the Wau-Tombura road in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State, on Tuesday evening.
The state’s Local Government Minister, Angelo Taban told Radio Tamazuj that the incident took place around Gombolo area of Kpaile and Bazia payams in Wau County.
He confirmed that at least two people were killed in the attack. He accused rebel fighters loyal to the SPLA-In Opposition leader Riek Machar of their involvement in the incident.
Taban stressed that security forces will now be deployed to patrol the area, to protect transport of food and commodities along this road.
The official further promised to restore order and stability in the coming few days in the area. Radio Tamazuj could not reach rebel officials to comment on Taban’s claims.
In June, the SPLA-IO rebels briefly controlled Bazia area, and claimed they also captured four police and about 16 light weapons.
Bazia village is near the road south of the Western Bahr al Ghazal State capital Wau, about 50 kilometers south of Wau.
