At least two people were killed in retaliatory attacks following a cattle raid in Torit East County over the weekend.

The area county commissioner Toby Majak Thomas told Radio Tamazuj that a group of armed men attacked cattle camps in Olianga village last week and raided 20 heads of cattle.

“The monyemiji after hearing the information, they beat the drums and followed the footmarks until they found the raiders plus cows in Tuhubak area. They clashed and one person died there in the bush,” Majak said.

Commissioner Majak added that another person was killed when the raiders came back to avenge the death of their member.

“When they realize that their member died, they rested for one day and came back again. They are about 7 people. The one in the kraal shot at them and the Monyemiji heard from the area and went to ambush them so they killed one from the raiders,” he adds

The local official noted that the two people killed could not be identified and hence he cannot accuse any party of the raid.

Majak further advised the youth to stop generalizing criminals saying, criminals should be treated as criminals and not communities.

“These thieves, they are not the village. These are individual thieves. You have to protect your resources from criminals,” he explained.
