Two men sentenced in Nyala town for rape, abuse of children

A juvenile court in Nyala town in Sudan’s South Darfur State on Thursday sentenced two men to 20 and 10 years imprisonment after they were found guilty of child rape.

The court later acquitted one of the convicts because he exceeds the stipulated age limit for prisoners according to the Sudanese Penal Code 1991. However, he was ordered to work to improve his conduct for the next five years.

Speaking to Darfur 24, one of the lawyers said children are increasingly becoming prone to rape, saying rape has become a threat to many families and needs serious punishment to deter people from such acts.

The lawyer said about 4 and 5 rape cases are reported daily in Nyala town.
