Two men jailed for medical negligence in Jonglei

A High Court judge in Jonglei State has sentenced two men to jail after they were found guilty of negligence while treating a patient at a clinic located in Twic East County.

A High Court judge in Jonglei State has sentenced two men to jail after they were found guilty of negligence while treating a patient at a clinic located in Twic East County.

In October 2019, a patient who was allegedly injected with a wrong drug, died at a clinic located in the Maar area of Twic East County.

“The second accused opened a clinic while he is not a doctor. The first accused, a senior 1 student, was employed as a pharmacist,” John Yel, President of the Jonglei High County, told Radio Tamazuj last week.

He added, “The second accused Arok Aweng Arok is jailed for three years while the first accused Jacob Manyok is jailed for three years for medical negligence under section 210 of the Penal Code 2008. The two accused will also pay 50 cows as blood compensation to the deceased’s family according to Bor customs.”

Yel stated that the accused have 15 days to appeal the verdict.
