Two Facebook users who have posted sensitive government information have ended up in jail in Eastern Lakes State, a local official said on Monday.
Taban Abel, Information Minister in Eastern Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj that security forces last week arrested two men for sharing secret government information with the public.
He further said Major Majak Telar and Machiek Marial committed the offence through posts on Facebook.
“Majak is a Major in the South Sudan Prisons Service and Machiek Marial is working as office manager for the SPLM secretary in the state,” he explained.
Minister Abel said the two officials were arrested in the town of Yirol on orders of their bosses.” The two men have been posting sensitive government policies on Facebook,” he said.
Abel further said the prosecutor will decide on the two men’s case.
Abel’s account could not be independently verified. Family members could not immediately be reached for comment.
