The international relief agency Medair said one of its locally recruited staff and one of its community volunteers were killed in separate incidents in South Sudan’s Leer County on April 26.
Medair organization helps people who are suffering in remote and devastated communities around the world survive crises and recover with dignity.
The aid agency said in a statement that its two staff members were fatally shot at different locations and later died as a result of their injuries.
“Both staff were working in our programme treating malnourished children in Leer County,” it said.
“Medair condemns this act of violence that has taken the lives of our humanitarian colleagues” said Caroline Boyd, Medair’s Head of Country Programme. “We extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones during this very difficult time.”
Medair further said it is continuing to gather information on the circumstances of the incidents. “Nutrition needs in the area are huge and we are deeply committed to continue to serve the people in the country.”
