The government of Lakes State has disclosed where it is detaining two members of the state parliament after some lawmakers called their detention unlawful.
MPs Marik Nanga Marik and Isaac Makur Buoc Apac representing Rumbek North and Rumbek East counties have been detained since October. Their whereabouts was not reported to their families and it was not clear whether they had been charged with any crime.
Marial Amuom Malek, a security advisor to Lakes State caretaker governor disclosed to Radio Miraya that the two legislators are being kept in Yirol East County.
Meanwhile, a member of the Council of States representing Lakes State, James Magok Ater Malok, told Radio Miraya that their detention is unlawful.
“What has happened actually is the violation of the constitution because these two MPs, what could have been done in the first place was to lift their immunity and after that they are arrested with knowledge from the Speaker but that process was not done”
