At least two people were killed and another two were injured on Tuesday in an ambush by gunmen on a commercial car in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Commissioner of Alel County Kelek Kon Lual said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon when gunmen ambushed a commercial car on its way to Abyei from Ngong area.
“Yesterday around 2:00 p.m. a commercial car was travelling from Ngong area to Abyei felt in an ambush by gunmen,” said Lual.
He said the two people who were injured are in critical condition and were taken to the hospital of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
The Commissioner accused militias residing in the Sudanese territory of being behind the incident.
He also accused the Sudanese authorities in the area of not wanting peaceful coexistence between Misseriya and Ngok Dinka.
