At least two people were killed and three others wounded in a cattle raid in Tonj South County of Warrap State on Monday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the county’s Executive Director, Marko Mabior Ajec said the raiders made away with over 2,000 heads of cattle.
He said the whereabouts of five youth who followed the raiders with the hope of recovering the stolen cattle remains unknown.
“Yesterday [Monday], criminals from Cueibet County in Lakes State came and took over 2,000 heads of cattle, killed two people and wounded three others,” Mabior said.
He added, “That was what happened at about 5:00am in Monjol”.
The local official pointed out that security forces sent to recover the cattle failed to access the forested areas.
He appealed to the newly formed transitional unity government to prioritize nationwide disarmament of the population.
Authorities in Lakes State could not easily be reached for comments.
