At least two people including a woman were reported killed and six men were injured in an attack by gunmen on villages around Amiet common market in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan, a local official said.

Abyei deputy guvnor minister Kon Manyid Matiok told Radio Tamazuj today that the attack took place on Thursday night, killing one woman and wounding six men. He added that a man who was reported missing has been found killed today.

“The armed groups came and opened fire randomly on people around Amiet common market,” he said.

Matiok accused militia supported by the Khartoum government of carrying out the attack.
