Two people were killed, two others injured and a child abducted in a road ambush that happened in Duk County of Jonglei State on Tuesday, a local official disclosed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Ayom Akuoch, the county’s executive director said the incident happened when gunmen attacked civilians on the road between Duk Padiet town and Panaru village.
“They abducted four children, but we recovered two. They abducted one child and killed the other. During the recovery mission, we lost one youth and the other was wounded,” he said.
Ayom identified the abducted as 3-year-old Nyanapiei Tut Maluac.
The local official, however, said the area is calm despite the incident.
The communities of greater Jonglei state have for long been wrangling leading to cattle raids and child abductions.
