Two people were killed in fresh fighting between communities in Hiyalla and Iloli villages of Torit East County in Eastern Equatoria State on Monday, a military officer said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the South Sudan army (SSPDF) commander for Torit East County, Major Sastilio Oliha confirmed the violent incident involving local communities from the two villages.
“The day before yesterday [Monday], there were goats raided from Hiyalla and the people of Hiyalla followed the footmarks and passed through Iloli village. According to reports, upon their return, the people who followed the goats went and shot a woman along Burung road and the woman was found dead,” Oliha said.
The officer urged calm in the two villages to avoid further damages.
He called for speedy investigations to avoid escalation of violence.
“I urge the government to stop such conflicts. As you know, the death of a person is very bad and if not properly followed, problems will multiply. The government should separate them and get to know who took the goats,” said Oliha.
