Politicians attending a peace conference in Lakes state have resolved to release two MPs detained last October.
The two MPs Marik Nanga and Isaac Makur have been held without charge — a violation of their constitutional right to trial.
Radio Miraya reports that the recent Lakes peace conference was convened to identify the “root causes of the insecurity, promote peaceful co-existence among the state’s politicians, encourage dialogue and foster smooth communication between the State government and traditional authorities, to end crisis in the state.”
The national Minister of Justice, Paulino Wanawilla, says the two MPs should be released immediately to pave way for the re-opening of the state legislative assembly.
