Two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), including a traditional chief, were killed while cutting trees for poles in Jonglei State’s Duk County on Tuesday, local officials said.

Peter Latjor Chuol, the Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the displaced community’s leader identified as Puok Gatkuoth Nyak, and another man were found dead in a bush outside Pokttap town a day after they failed to return home.

“Our police and youth went out on Tuesday after two members of the displaced community who went to the bush to cut trees for construction materials failed to return to their homes,” he said. “They were found dead and their axes were placed by their side. The deceased are members of the displaced community from Greater Akobo sheltering here with us.”

On his part, Brigadier Deng Duot, the county police inspector, confirmed that two men were found dead but that no suspects have been arrested because the incident happened in the bush.
