Two girls died and hundreds of houses were destroyed by heavy rainfall in Babanusa town of Sudan’s West Kordofan State on Wednesday, according to local sources.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, sources said the state government has called on humanitarian organization to intervene to contain the crisis caused by the heavy rainfall and floods which hit different parts of the state.
A local official says that 876 families from al Nuhud, Abu Zabad, al Meram, Kharsan and Gebaish have been affected by the floods and rains. Yusuf Daidan, coordinator for the Sudan Relief Commission in West Kordofan, said they formed an emergency committee headed by the governor of the state al Amir Abu al Gazim.
He added that the committee has conducted registration and food distribution to meet the needs of those affected by the rainfalls and floods.
