The authorities in the Jonglei State capital, Bor, confirmed that at least two people were injured after they were ambushed by armed men suspected to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area on Sunday.
The attack took place in Baidit Payam of Bor County as three fishermen were returning from a fishing trip along the Nile.
According to Jonglei State Information Minister Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, the fishermen were targeted by assailants who shot them as they made their way home.
“The three men were ambushed; two have been critically injured and one person survived unhurt,” she reported.
Jonglei State Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. John Baak confirmed the attack and said police forces had been deployed to patrol the area and pursue the suspects. He added that the two injured individuals had been transferred to Juba for further treatment.
For his part, Oleyo Akuer, the minister of information in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) said he was not aware of the incident in Baidit,
“I will check with the authorities in the counties that neighbor Bor County to confirm if there were people from there who might have gone to attack people in Bor County,” Akuer said.
In a separate development, the commissioner of Bor County, James Gai Makhor, clarified an allegation of cattle raiding in Chuei-Keer Boma of Kolnyang Payam and said that the individuals seen in the area on Sunday were residents moving their cattle and were not involved in any rustling.
