At least two people have been killed in what appeared to be a case of revenge in Rubkona County of Unity State on Monday, local officials said.
Gatluak Wichar, the Commissioner of Rubkona County, told Radio Tamazuj that the two men, identified as Gatluak Paul and Tuor Yak, were killed in a revenge attack by a gunman in the area on Monday afternoon.
The commissioner said that the perpetrator escaped after the incident. “We have not arrested anyone from his family. The suspect fled alone and left his family in Rubkona County,” Gatluak said.
According to the local official, police authorities are trying to arrest the accused.
For his part, the State Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Col. Chiok Ruei confirmed the incident.
“Yes, a gunman has killed two people in what appeared to be revenge for his brother who was killed last year. The police are looking for him. But the accused has fled to a remote area affected by floods,” Ruei said.
According to previous reports, the routine of intercommunal clashes and revenge attacks in many parts of the country prevails due to the lack of an efficient justice system.
