A rabid dog attacked and killed two people in Mayom County of Unity State, a local health official said.
Rabies is a preventable viral disease of mammals most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal.
Dr. Talimat Mathiot Chan, the county health director, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that at least two people were confirmed dead recently, and 11 rabid dog bite cases were recorded in the area amid a lack of anti-rabies vaccine at healthcare centres.
“We don’t have anti-rabies in hospitals; if we have anti-rabies, we can help ourselves at the PHCC level. We don’t take people to the PHCC level because, at the PHCC level, there is no anti-rabies treatment,” he said.
“I informed the National Ministry of Health to help us by giving us some anti-rabies, and also the state ministry of health in Unity State will do the same. We submitted our documents requesting anti-rabies,” he said.
