Two Darfur armed groups, the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minni Minnawi have criticized African Union mediators for blaming them for the failure of the peace talks on Darfur recently.

In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, the two rebel groups claimed that they exerted great efforts to support the peace process through signing of the African Union peace roadmap agreement.

The two groups pointed out that the Khartoum government rejected all other relevant issues, referring to the AU Peace and Security Council resolutions, besides the demand by the armed groups to establish a joint mechanism to monitor movements of aid assistance.

The two armed movements noted that they only criticized some phrases and provisions in the AU Security Council resolutions which support the government’s position at the peace talks.

The two Darfur movements vehemently rejected the government’s position to incorporate the Doha Document in the current negotiations.
