At least two civilians were killed and houses burnt when armed men clashed with government forces at Kicak Village of Torit West County in Torit State on Thursday, a local official said.

Torit West County Commissioner, Lodoviko Oryem Albert, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident has forced civilians to flee to neighbouring villages.

“No proper information was brought to me by anyone, but civilians are scattered because Kicak Village was burnt,” he said.

On his part, the governor of Torit state Tobiolo Alberio Oromo confirmed Thursday’s incident and accused fighters loyal to General Thomas Cirillo of carrying out the attack.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for students of Torit Health Science Institute, Oromo said his government was working to restore calm in the area.

Calls to the official spokesman of the opposition National Salvation Front (NAS) went unanswered.
