At least two children were abducted near Jebel Muluk along the Juba-Torit road on Sunday, the police said.

The police spokesman in Torit State, Major Justin Kiliopas told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that eight armed men in military uniforms ambushed vehicles and forcefully abducted the children from their guardians.

A one-and-a half-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were abducted, he said.

The police officer further said passengers and drivers who reported the matter claimed the abduction was carried out by armed youth believed to be from Boma State.

“According to the passengers and the drivers who witnessed the scene, the abductors could be the Murle. All had guns and wore military uniforms,” Kiliopas said.

Last year, four children were reportedly abducted in the same area.

Local authorities in Boma State could not immediately be reached for comment.
