Two chiefs and some women have been arrested in Kongor County in South Sudan’s Tonj state for stealing relief food from a World Food Programme (WFP) truck on Wednesday, a senior government official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the deputy governor of Tonj state, Manim Bol said the WFP truck had broken down at Nydor for nearly a week.

He further said the arrested women and chiefs looted the food items after the truck driver had gone to buy some spare parts.

Malek confirmed that the suspects are being detained by the police and they will be arraigned in court. The deputy governor urged citizens to refrain from such acts.
