Two traders were killed and several cattle stolen during a raid carried out by armed bandits on the outskirts of Uror County in Jonglei State on Sunday, a local official said.
“On October 17, a group of cattle traders who left the county headquarters of Yuai town to take their cattle for sale in Bor were attacked by armed bandits outside the county, killing two of them,” Tang Chatim, the Uror County Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj.
The local official pointed out that the attack was carried out by armed bandits whom he claimed went away with several herds of cattle to the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
The state police spokesperson Major Majak Daniel Tuor confirmed the incident without providing details, saying he has yet to be officially informed.
For his part, Jay Adingora, the GPAA information minister, said he is not aware of the incident.
“We are sorry for what had happened there. We are not aware of it and so I can not confirm or deny,” he said.
