A senior SPLA-IO commander in Western Equatoria region has urged the Joint Military Ceasefire Committee (JMCC) to support their forces assembled in Amadi State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Gen. Barnaba Malesh, the SPLA-IO’s deputy commander for sector 6 in the region said 5,000 troops in Mudubai and Nimertina areas are lacking food, medicines and clean drinking water.

He appealed to the joint security committee in Juba to immediately send the items that are lacking to the assembly areas.

The SPLA-IO commander further said Kediba, Ingiri and Soya assembly areas were given food and medicines at the beginning of the month, but other cantonment sites lack food and medicines.

He urged the relevant authorities to provide food and medicines in all cantonment sites.

Last month, a senior SPLA-IO officer reportedly died at the Ingiri assembly site due to a lack of health services.

Last week, the government of South Sudan allocated $16.5 million for the security mechanisms to speed up the creation of unified forces in the country. The amount was allocated to the security mechanisms through the National Pre-Transitional Committee, a body tasked with the oversight and coordination of pre-transitional period activities.
