Two buses traveling along the Juba-Nimule highway have collided. Different accounts suggest that at least eight people were killed and tens wounded.
A witness who was traveling on a separate bus that arrived on the scene soon after the collision told Radio Tamazuj that he saw dead bodies being removed out of both buses, which had collided at morning hours.
People of different nationalities are thought to have died, including Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya.
The witness who preferred to remain anonymous said Wednesday that he saw the buses belonging to Gateway Bus company at Pageri Administrative Area Centre. The company is among several that transport passengers between Juba and Kampala.
“It was very difficult to remove the dead bodies including the two drivers,” he said.
He said the dead bodies and wounded people were transported to Nimule Hospital. Separately, Insider Uganda reported that the Uganda police sent an ambulance to transport some of the injured people to Uganda for treatment.
Nimule-Juba highway has witnessed several recent shootings and accidents in recent days. It is possible that the drivers of the buses were driving in fear of ambush when the collision took place.
