The police in Lakes State say they registered two cases of people beaten to death in Rumbek Central County and Yirol West County on Sunday.
The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that a person was beaten to using sticks and left for dead in the Waar-wade area of Rumbek Central on Sunday by yet-to-be-identified assailants. He said the man was rushed to hospital for treatment but unfortunately died of his injuries later that night.
“Three people were apprehended in connection with the death of the man and investigations are ongoing to prove that they beat him till he later died,” Maj. Mabor said. “So, the suspects are still under investigation and the cause of the problem is not known simply because the man who was beaten was evacuated to hospital while he was unconscious and was unable to explain what triggered their fight.”
He said that another incident was registered on the same day in a place called Aram-baai in Yirol West County in which another man was also beaten by unidentified people.
“The man was first taken to hospital but before he could be sent for X-ray examination, his relatives decided to withdraw their son and took him to a native doctor where he unfortunately died,” Mabor explained. “The police took legal measures by sending the dead body for postmortem and the real suspect who beat him was also arrested and the investigation is going on. We are waiting for the official medical report from Yirol Hospital to learn the cause of death.”
“Our personnel on the ground did not disclose what triggered the fighting in both cases that led to death,” he added.
