Two arrested over the killing of parliamentarian in Upper Nile

Two suspects are in custody in connection to the murder of a member of the national assembly along with two security guards last Tuesday in Upper Nile region, a senior opposition official told Radio Tamazuj.

The legislator Deng Bol Jak, a government security guard Duop Wiyual and an SPLA-IO officer identified as Deng Bol Chopthiang were shot dead when the boat they were traveling in fell in an ambush in Mandeng area within the opposition-controlled Sobat State.

SPLM-IO deputy chairman for information and public relations, Manawa Peter Garkuoth said that the suspects were arrested last Thursday.

"Two of the suspects were arrested on Thursday with the help of local authorities and investigations are underway," he stated.

Manawa condemned the act and stressed that the authorities will hold all found guilty accountable.
