Police in Rumbek East County have arrested two teenagers for their alleged involvement in a rape case, according to County Executive Director Madit Malual.

The two teenagers are accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Malith Boma of Aduel Payam on Friday, the county official said in an interview with Radio Miraya, the UN radio service in South Sudan.

“It was a girl under 15 year of age. The two men are also under 18 or 17. There is a law – if someone is accused of rape, the law can take them to police and then the investigation will take place today, and they will explain why they do this, and then they will be taken to the court.”

In a separate incident, police in Rumbek East County have launched a manhunt for a man involved in a botched rape attempt. Madit Malual says the girl was rescued by police but the suspect is still at large.

“In that attempt, the woman was rescued by security forces of police. The guy who committed or tried to attempt the raping, his father has been arrested and people are running after him now.”
