Two arrested in connection with killing of chief in Bor

Bor County authorities said security agents have detained two suspects in the killing of Chief Kuai Ayuen and his wife last week in Jale Payam.

Bor County authorities said security agents have detained two suspects in the killing of Chief Kuai Ayuen and his wife last week in Jale Payam.

Bor County Commissioner Isaac Mamer Ruk told Radio Tamazuj that the two suspects are from Baidit payam in Makol-cuei boma, though he did not release their names.

“The investigation is going well,” he said. “After the sultan was killed, the county authority of Bor town sent the committee to investigate how the chief was killed with his wife. Based on the investigation, the relatives of the chief accused their in-laws from the Biong clans for having been involved and they were arrested on Monday.”

He explained that officials believe the killing was connected to a marriage between the Biong and Juet clans three weeks ago, after a man from Biong impregnated a woman from Juet. When the pregnancy was discovered, Ayuen performed a marriage ceremony and the Biong clan paid 2,000 SSP and a cow to her family.

The woman’s father, after he learned of the marriage, demanded that the man who impregnated his daughter be arrested.

In the process of arresting the new groom, a police officer accidentally opened fire on a crowd of young people, Ruk said, killing a man from the Biong clan.
