Two youths were arrested on Wednesday morning by SPLA-IO forces under the command of Brigadier General Gabriel Bol Wek for looting goods from a truck in the Jebel Maloulo area along Wau- Kuajiena Road in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
According to Gen. Bol Wek, the truck was ambushed by the young men who were armed with sticks but forces under his command who are stationed at Kabur-Ngab intervened after they were called on the phone by a security escort on the truck.
“This incident happened and I sent forces and these two people were arrested. They took two bags of maize flour and two mobile phones which have been recovered. These culprits are now in my custody,” he said. “The two youths were not armed, were not soldiers and they were just using sticks. The escort who was in the truck had no gun but did his best to contact us on the phone and we sent soldiers to the scene to arrest these people.”
According to Gen. Bol, all the looted items were returned to the truck driver and normal movement had resumed on the road from Wau to Tonj.
“This road belongs to the government and our being here is to ensure it is safe for free movement and we can use motorbikes to intervene if there is a situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Moses Ucu from Kuajiena Town who witnessed the incident, confirmed that the youth were apprehended.
“There were some youths from Maloulo who mobilized themselves to ambush the truck and looted some items but they were all arrested by the soldiers of Gen. Bol Wek plus other soldiers from Mbili and the commodities were recovered,” he recounted,” he said.
