Two arrested after ambush of convoy in Tonj East

Authorities of Tonj State have announced the arrest of two suspects from armed youths that allegedly ambushed the convoy of the Tonj East Commissioner last week, injuring several of his entourage.

A group of attackers suspected to include about 11 armed youths from Tonj East's Pakor Boma allegedly wounded four security personnel including the commissioner's driver when they opened fire on the commissioner's convoy last week.

The commissioner was traveling in the area to seek the return of stolen cattle from neighboring 'Gok State', which was resisted by the youths.

Three hundred cattle were reportedly stolen last month from Gok State by armed youths from Tonj East County.

Manhiem Bol Malek, Deputy Governor for Tonj State confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that their security forces dispatched to the area after the ambush of the commissioner's convoy arrested two armed youths.

He stated that they also recovered 100 cattle and gathered them at Wunlith Payam waiting to send them to the Tonj State headquarters. He said security agencies are pursuing the other nine armed youths allegedly linked to the ambush of the governor's convoy, saying they have gone to the bush with raided cattle.
