Two employees of the Dutch aid organization Cordaid were shot during a daylight robbery in South Sudan’s capital yesterday, in spite of not having resisted the attackers.
Two gunmen approached a Land Cruiser vehicle belonging to Cordaid as it pulled up at the gate of a Cordaid guesthouse in part of Juba town at 6:15 p.m., “still during daylight,” according to a press statement by Cordaid South Sudan.
“They were forced by two armed man to leave the vehicle,” the statement says.
As the attackers made their getaway, they opened fire on the victims whom they had left behind, injuring one in the leg and the other one in the neck.
“The two Cordaid employees entered the compound and were driven to hospital, where they received treatment. One of them returned to the Cordaid compound later that evening, the other one is at home,” the organization disclosed.
The Dutch organization noted, “Clearly the robbery aimed at taking the vehicle… The increase in armed robberies in Juba lately is worrisome.”
