Three individuals, two women and a child, who were abducted last Friday while on their way to Nyirol County from neighboring Uror County have been released by their captor, a local official said.
The former abductees were among a group of women waylaid by assailants on the outskirts of the Pading area in Jonglei State’s Nyirol County last Friday evening. Another woman was killed in the attack.
Uror County Commissioner Machot Gatluak Kenyjak told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the abductees were freed on Tuesday and have now been reunited with their families in Uror’s Pathai area.
“These women left from Pathai in Uror County but after reaching Guer in Pading Payam, they were abducted by armed assailants,” he said. “However, the assailants later released them and after spending a day in the bush, they arrived back home.”
“A baby girl and a girl who were abducted with the women were taken by assailants,” Commissioner Gatluak added.
He said that upon interrogation, the freed women reported that they were released on the orders of an old man who was among their abductors.
“The assailants escorted them up to somewhere near Pathai and showed them the direction home and thankfully these women arrived safely,” the official stated.
