The commissioner of Twic South County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State has expressed concerns over the poor living conditions of returnees in his county.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Twic South County Commissioner Daniel Deng said about 7, 500 individuals have started to settle in the Mar area, but they lack access basic services including medicines.

“We have started registering people returning from Uganda and other IDP camps such as Mingkaman since November last year.

But they have not received any support. They lack food, shelter and drugs. We have a health facility but it lacks drugs,” he said.

The local official appealed to aid agencies operating in the area to provide medicines and other basic services.
