Bona Panek, governor of the newly established Twic State described on Friday the security situation in his area as normal except for the recent incident in which at least 8 herders from Aweil East State were killed in the cattle camp in a village in Akoc Thon Payam.
Governor Panek is currently visiting Juba from Kuacjok where he was participating in the distribution of assets of the former Warrap State. He said Friday he is in Juba for consultations with the leadership of the government, including President Salva Kiir on a host of issues, including the establishment of the institutions as the first priority of his administration before appointing a cabinet and county commissioners as well as advisors to him and other institutions.
“I am in Juba for consultations with the leadership and to brief the president on a host of issues in my capacity as the governor of Twic State. I came yesterday (Thursday) from Kuacjok where I participated in the meeting which was convened to discuss how best the assets could be divided. We have formed the committee and this is now the body which will be identifying and divide the assets through consensus,” said Panek. “There will be no problem”, he added
He continued: “Here I will be briefing the president on the general situation. The situation as now is normal. Everything is okay. People are going about their normal business. It was only last week when a cattle camp of the people from Aweil East State who came to Twic in search of pasture and water was attacked and looted.”
“Eight people lost their lives and 180 cows were taken. This was the only incident which occurred but the situation now is calm. I went to the site and I assured our people from Aweil East of our commitment to protecting them and their properties. What happened was unexpected as this has never happened before,” he explained.
