Inhabitants of Jonglei State’s Twic East County headquarters, Panyagoor town, have complained about poor communication network in the area, saying the network oftentimes goes off.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several residents, appealed to Zain Telecommunication Company, the only service provider there to improve its services.
“Our network only operates well during the early morning hours,” Monica Aluet, a resident of Panyagoor, said. “We have not been able to communicate with the rest of our family members for months now. We appeal that this network be boosted.”
Jok David Deng, a local government official said they are suffering because of the poor telephone connectivity which has made coordination of work difficult.
“Our situation is not good. If there is no communication, there will be no coordination. But now nothing can be coordinated completely,” he said. “Areas just 3 hours from Panyagoor are completely out of reach. So, sometimes people walk to deliver a message.”
On his part, Elijah Manyok Ayi, the deputy county executive director, said the poor network is hindering service delivery.
“As a government, we are also affected. A week ago, we were not able to coordinate a series of incidents. For example, a man succumbed to a snakebite because we were unable to call for help and also 7 children were abducted without any attempt to rescue them,” Manyok stressed. “Our network often goes off during day, evening, and night hours. This problem has been there since last year. We raised this with Zain company but they are yet to fix the problem so we appeal to Zain to come to our help.”
Efforts to reach Zain were futile.
