Twic East commissioner asks for help for 13,000 displaced

The commissioner of Twic East County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State says a recent attack on Pakeer village has forced 13,582 citizens to flee their homes.

In mid November, gunmen killed at least 22 civilians and wounded 9 others in an attack on Pakeer village at Maar payam.

Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj that citizens fled to Bor and cattle camps in Pakeer and Pagarau village amid difficult humanitarian conditions.

The county official pointed out that the majority of families are women, children, and elderly people, saying they didn’t receive any humanitarian aid until now.

Dau noted that the vulnerable families are in dire need of medicine, food and mosquito nets. The commissioner called on humanitarian organizations to provide basic services to the affected people as soon as possible.
