Authorities in Twic Centre County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State have expressed optimism that food security situation in the area will improve in 2018 as local residents embark on agriculture.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Twic Centre County commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch said civilians in his county have heeded to calls for farming, and began preparing their lands.

“Compared to previous years, if there will be no natural calamities this year, we will make a good harvest as the locals responded to calls for farming and we will also put three of our tractors into use,” he said.

Commissioner Dau however pleaded with the national government to continue engaging civilians in greater Jonglei for peace, stressing that peace is a necessity while boosting food production.
