Walid Phares, Trump’s foreign policy adviser says US President-elect has pledge not to remove economic sanctions imposed on Sudan.

Walid Phares is an American scholar of Lebanese Maronite Syriac Christian descent.

Speaking to American-Sudanese from the Nuba Mountains, Phares criticised Obama’s Administration for marginalizing the issue of Sudan during his two terms in office.

“There is no reason for why we and our European allies lifting the sanctions, this is unacceptable. Lifting the sanctions on Bashir’s regime is not acceptable,” Phares said.

Phares vowed that Trump would drum up international support in his the first 100 days to formulate a policy on South Kordofan area.

The adviser noted that Trump would work closely with the International Criminal Court (ICC), to implement its decisions on Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir.

In October, US President Barack Obama decided to extend sanctions on Sudan for another year, saying Khartoum government’s policies remained an “unusual threat” to the national security of the United States.

Sudan has been subject to an American trade embargo since 1997 for its alleged support for terrorist groups.
