Two male traders were instantly killed and one injured when a truck lost control and rammed into their shops in Riohiak Payam in Unity State’s Rubkona County on Sunday afternoon.
The Traffic Police Director in Unity State, Captain Domai Dak Kai, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the vehicle involved in the crash belonged to a Chinese engineering company subcontracted by the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) in the Unity Oilfield. He attributed the accident to speeding.
“The vehicle was moving at high speed from the Panyigai area and heading to Unity oilfield when one of its tires burst changing its direction to the line of shops. It hit the shops and killed two male traders and injured another,” he stated. “The accident occurred on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. because the driver was speeding. We have arrested the driver for investigations and also impounded the truck.”
“The deceased are Lat Maguong and Sudan Manyoun while the injured is Gatluak Ayor,” Cap. Dak added.
He said the injured person is receiving treatment at Bentiu Hospital.
Dak advised motorists to service and routinely inspect their vehicles to ensure they are road-worthy.
The police mouthpiece urged the families of the departed to remain calm as investigations are underway and cautioned drivers against speeding.
