The driver of a tipper truck that was transporting river sand to Rumbek town in Lakes State has been arrested over an accident that left a 3-year-old girl dead in Pul-Kuc in Rumbek East County on Wednesday.
The police’s acting spokesperson in Lakes State, Lt. Col. Moses Machuoc Bol, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that the driver identified as Sunday Apet Mayiek has been detained at the Rumbek East County police station for knocking Ayieda Anyak Maker dead along the Pul-kuch road.
He said the driver was speeding.
“There was a truck driver who went to River Naam to collect sand and on his way back to Rumbek town he caused an accident that killed a 3 years old girl identified as Ayieda Anyak Maker on the spot,” Col. Machuoc said. “The truck driver was arrested and now he is being investigated by Rumbek East County police.”
He said the girl was knocked dead while crossing the road.
Col. Machuoc urged the parents and family of the deceased to remain calm and allow the police complete investigations and arraign the driver in court.

“We have not heard whether the driver was beaten by the relatives of the little girl after the accident or not, we do not know,” he said. “What happened after the accident is that the driver and the vehicle were detained in Rumbek East and there is an investigation ongoing.”
