A criminal court in Kadugli town in Sudan’s South Kordofan state has ordered confiscation of guns and ammunition and a fine of SDG 4,000 for two elderly suspected criminals.

The court headed by Judge Hamdi Juma Hussein has issued a lenient punishment after determining the ages of the accused before continuing the final ruling on Tuesday, a source told Radio Tamazuj yesterday.

The two suspects were identified as Hamid Ali Mohamed Fadul El Saed, aged around 74, and Bashir Mohamed Hamed Mohammed, aged around 68.

The two suspects were arrested at Kuek area north of Kadugli town and accused of arms smuggling and involvement in clashes between Sudanese intelligence services and elements of the Abbala group, resulting in the wounding of one of the accused and the killing of a camel.

In those clashes, about nine Kalashnikov rifles and six pieces of ammunition were seized, while one of the suspects fled on the back of a camel laden with ammunition, according to the same source.
