Tribal leader killed in South Kordofan

The leading tribal figure of Bani-Fadul community was killed, allegedly in an attack by Al-Hamr tribe members yesterday morning in Ganthur area, west of Babanusa town.

Several witnesses told Radio Tamazuj that a group of armed men from the Al-Hamr attacked the Ganthur area on Wednesday, killing the Bani-Fadul leader, Adam Al-Khair.

“The same group engaged in armed clashes with the police yesterday, and two were killed” witnesses said.

Local residents pointed out the Al-Hamr and Bani-Fadul tribes had a dispute over compensation for the oil-rich Rig-Kamseen land. The situation then turned into a series of armed confrontations between the two sides.

They noted that the Rig-Kamseen area was originally agricultural land owned by the two tribes, until oil was discovered there.
