The trial of suspects allegedly connected with recent fighting between Gogrial East and Gogrial West communities is ongoing, according to a senior Warrap state official.
State Security Adviser James Achiei Akuen told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that over 2,000 cattle were collected and that they would be distributed to families in the two counties to compensate them for people killed in the inter-communal fighting.
He pointed out that many civilians fled to Abyei and other neighboring areas during the fighting, which left 78 people dead. The official called on the displaced families to come back home, claiming the security situation has returned to normal.
“I call on them to return back home because the trial is going on. There is no fear, so anybody should come back, and nobody will be killed again. The problem is being solved the people are being compensated,” he said.
