Passengers traveling from Bor to Juba towns have complained that the fare from Bor to Juba has increased dramatically these days, calling on the state authorities to intervene.

Awak Duot, a police officer in Bor town, told Radio Tamazuj before her departure to Juba that the fare from Bor to Juba increased to 18,000 SSP.

“I receive 1,500 SSP in the police service and the bus fare is 18,000. In addition my luggage, I was charged 200 SSP,” she said.

Adol Makum Agot, a mother of five children, said family problems forced her to travel to Juba. “My husband is sick in Juba, so I am going to take care of him, “she said.

For his part, Majok Jok Reng, head of the drivers’ union in Bor town, said the transport fare was raised due to fuel shortages in Juba.

“We have added something on top of the bus fare due to the scarcity of fuel in the state. In Bor here, 20 liters are sold at 3, 500 SSP and it is not there. In Juba, it is sold at 5, 000 SSP, so we add something to maintain the business,” he said.

Thiong Alier, a driver in Bor, said the number of passengers has reduced and that they continue to receive complaints from the passengers but they failed to do anything.
