Transport has resumed along the Juba-Terekeka road after it was briefly suspended due to heavy flooding.

Zechariah Laku, the Secretary General of the defunct Terekeka State, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that transport resumed on Tuesday last week as repairs continue on damaged road sections.

“Several sections were washed away by heavy rains, but the engineers were able to work on the damage. Now, it is passable and there is no problem anymore. People and vehicles are now moving to Juba,” said Laku.

Last year, an amount of $711 million was earmarked for the construction of road linking the capital, Juba to Terekeka, Yirol and Rumbek towns.

The highway is being constructed by the Chinese firm Shandong Hi-speed company.

The company has attributed the recent damages on the Juba-Bahr el Ghazal road to “unexpected” flood which exceeded the hydrological data collected during the survey.
