Translation of “The Jesus Film” into Tennet language begins in Entebbe

A group of interdenominational Christian leaders from Torit are in Entebbe, Uganda with the sole aim of translating and filming “The Jesus Film” in Tennet language spoken by the people of Torit and Lopit West Counties of Torit State.

Assistant Bishop of the Evangelical Free Church in South Sudan Rev. Loruma Nyerizi Joseph told Radio Tamazuj that translating the Christian film into local languages will help in evangelizing communities.

He said about 14 different protestant church leaders including him intend to complete the translation and filming within a period of one month.

“It is going to be an exercise that takes one month in Entebbe. There are other churches coming like AIC and Methodist church to participate in the exercise,’’ he added.

The church leader stressed that once completed, the people speaking Tennet language can be able to listen and understand biblical teachings in their own native language. He also said they will be able to discard negative traditional beliefs such as witchcraft which is widely practiced.

The program is funded by the South Sudan Summer Institute of Linguistic in Juba, an organization dealing with languages translation in South Sudan.
