Local traders in the disputed area of Abyei have expressed their dissatisfaction over a decision to relocate Amieth common market into Abyei town, as part of resolutions of a recent Misseriya Conference.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the local traders said they totally reject the outcome of the conference saying the transfer of the market will negatively affect the economic stability of the area.

The head of the Misseriya Peace Committee, Janib Siddiq, stressed the importance of the market to both communities and the people of Sudan and South Sudan claiming challenges lay with the Ngok Dinka in the market.

For his part, Melit Ajak the head of the Ngok Dinka Peace Committee noted that his committee will discuss the outcomes of the 2nd Siteb conference on Thursday.

"The market will remain in place according to the agreements signed by the two sides to establish a common market between the Misseriya and the Ngok Dinka," he said.

Other resolutions arrived at the conference include allowing Messiriya to reside in Abyei town and the closure of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei or UNISFA operations in the area by the end of June this year.
